Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Scout,
I hope you are well. I have recently attended a music concert where you were performing. I am pleased to say i was thrilled to see your wonderful performance on stage. Your voice quality is breathtaking. I felt like listening to your songs over and over again. Even my friends enjoyed your performance. After your performance we attended few more singers performances. However, your performance was best amongst all. We got some valuable knowledge about various music equipments . For instance, Drums, voilin, guitar, flute and many more. We thoroughly enjoyed the music concert. We took pictures with varius music performers at the concert. I was eager to take a selfie with you . However, i got to know you already left. I was little disappointed because i couldn't take your autograph.
Since my childhood I wanted to become a singer. Recently, i took lessons for drums and guitar. After witnessing your amazing performance i became your fan. I was wondering if you could teach me more about music and singing. I have keen interest learning music. And If i get a chance to learn under your guidance then i will be greatful to you.
I hope you will acknowledge my request. I am looking forward to hearing from you.
Yours lovingly,
komal

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address all three points in the prompt: you praise the singer’s performance, describe your own musical interests and lessons, and ask for help learning music and singing. The admiration is clear in comments such as “your voice quality is breathtaking,” and your request for guidance is easy to understand. The details about your activities—taking drum and guitar lessons and wanting to become a singer—are relevant, though the request could be more specific about the kind of help you hope to receive, such as a lesson, advice, or an opportunity to practise together. Some concert details, including the instruments and missed selfie, take space without developing your musical activities or request. Overall, the purpose and tone are clear, with some ideas more fully developed than others.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter has a clear overall shape: it opens with your reaction to the concert, moves to your musical background and request, and closes politely. This progression helps the reader follow your purpose. You also use linking expressions such as “However,” “Since my childhood,” and “After witnessing” to connect events and ideas. At times, though, the first paragraph becomes a sequence of concert details, and the connection between them is not always smooth—for example, the list of instruments interrupts the account of your reaction to the singer. The repeated “I” sentence openings also make the flow somewhat mechanical. Grouping the concert reaction more tightly and giving your musical activities and request a focused paragraph would improve cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is adequate for expressing enthusiasm and explaining your musical interests. Phrases such as “breathtaking,” “valuable knowledge,” and “under your guidance” show attempts to use more expressive or formal language. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, however: “music equipments” is not the usual expression, “your performance was best amongst all” is awkward, and “I have keen interest learning music” needs more natural phrasing. There are also spelling errors, including “voilin,” “varius,” and “greatful,” which reduce accuracy. Aim for precise, natural combinations such as “musical instruments,” “the best performance of the evening,” and “I am keen to learn music.” Proofreading would help preserve the meaning while making your vocabulary more controlled.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including “I was wondering if you could teach me more about music and singing” and the contrast introduced by “However.” Most of the message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. Examples include missing articles or determiners in “attended few more singers performances” and “I was little disappointed,” as well as the incomplete construction “I have keen interest learning music.” Capitalisation is also inconsistent: “i” should be “I,” and “If” should not be capitalised mid-sentence. There are some punctuation and spacing slips around full stops. Check articles, sentence boundaries, and capital letters carefully; these corrections would make your varied sentence forms more accurate and polished.
