Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear Sir,

I hope you doing well.My name is Haider .Iam your big fan and it was very pleasure for me to attend your preivious concert at Al Hamra theater. It was an unforgetable night i enjoyed too much.i came there with my friends and they had a alot of there aswell.Iam also a violinist by passion not by proffesion but the way you play violin is incredible.

Main reason for writing this letter to you is to appreciate you for your perfomances which you had last month and also show my love for your music.

I need your guidence for playing vilon in a proffesional way because sometime i tried to copy your style but i cannot performme same .

The way you play with violin in such a busy and crowded places is amazing so i request you to book me for short time courses where you teach students about the violin.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address all three points: you praise the concert, mention that you play violin, and ask for help through lessons or a short course. The enthusiasm in “it was an unforgettable night” and your request for guidance make the purpose clear. However, some parts are less fully developed than others. Your musical activities are described only as being a violinist “by passion,” with no detail about how often you practise, what you play, or whether you perform. The request for help is also unclear: “book me for short time courses” could mean enrolling you in a course or asking the singer to teach you personally. Explain what support you want and why it would help you progress.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter has a generally understandable order: you introduce yourself and your reaction to the concert, explain why you are writing, then describe your need for guidance and make a request. Paragraph breaks help separate these stages. Some links between ideas are mechanical or unclear, however. “Main reason for writing this letter” repeats the purpose already stated in the opening, while “The way you play with violin in such a busy and crowded places” does not connect clearly to the request that follows. The reference to “they had a alot of there aswell” is also difficult to follow. Use clearer transitions and make each paragraph develop one point, especially the link between your own musical activities and the help you are requesting.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “concert,” “violinist,” “performance,” “guidance,” and “style,” and your positive feelings are clear. There are also attempts at more expressive language, such as “unforgettable night” and “incredible.” However, spelling errors and imprecise or unnatural word choices are noticeable, including “preivious,” “proffesion,” “perfomances,” and “book me for short time courses.” Some phrases are difficult to interpret, such as “they had a alot of there aswell.” These issues limit the precision of your message. Check spelling carefully and choose familiar, accurate collocations—for example, say that you would like to “take a short course” or “receive some lessons” rather than asking to be “booked.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You communicate through a mixture of short statements and longer sentences, and the reader can usually understand your main message. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly in verb forms, articles, and sentence boundaries. For example, “I hope you doing well” needs a verb (“I hope you are doing well”), and “it was very pleasure” needs an article (“a pleasure”). In “I came there with my friends and they had a alot of there aswell,” the clause structure does not clearly express your meaning. Several sentences also run together without appropriate spacing or punctuation, such as “well. My name” and “night i enjoyed.” Practise checking each sentence for a complete verb and clear punctuation, while retaining your attempts to combine ideas.
