Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Mr. Zain,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing to express my appreciation for your outstanding performance at the concert I attended last weekend. It was mind-blowing. I was really impressed with your voice and how you perform at the stage. The last song you played was Particularly memorable, and it left me with a desire to improve my singing.
I am also passionate about music since childhood and fond of learning to play different instruments. I also sing and play guitar in local communities and parties, although i still struggle to compose my own melodies and improve vocal techniques.
If possible, I would appreciate it if you could arrange workshops or a short meeting to seek your advice. I would be extremely grateful if you offer me some guidance on developing my singing skills and song writing abilities.
Thank you for inspiring young musicians like myself. I hope to hear from you soon.
Best wishes,
Hooria

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
The letter clearly addresses all three points: you praise the singer’s performance, describe your own musical activities, and request help. Details such as being impressed by his voice and playing guitar and singing at local events make the response relevant and personal. The request for workshops or a short meeting is also clear. To make the ideas more fully developed, explain more specifically what kind of guidance or workshop would help—for example, whether you want feedback on a song or exercises for vocal technique. The praise is enthusiastic, but adding one concrete detail about what made the final song memorable would make the appreciation more convincing and individual.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.5
The letter has a clear progression: it opens with the reason for writing, moves to your musical background, then makes a request and closes politely. Paragraphing supports this sequence, and linking phrases such as “I am also” and “If possible” help the reader follow the shift between points. The tone and format are appropriate for a personal letter. Some connections could be more precise: the transition from your musical interests to your difficulty composing is understandable, but a phrase explaining how these activities relate to your request would make the progression smoother. Overall, the organisation is clear and cohesive, with room for slightly more flexible linking and development between ideas.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the purpose, including expressive praise such as “outstanding performance” and “particularly memorable,” as well as relevant musical terms like “compose,” “melodies,” and “vocal techniques.” These choices communicate your enthusiasm and interests clearly. Some phrasing is less natural or precise, however: “how you perform at the stage” and “play guitar in local communities and parties” do not sound idiomatic in this context. “Mind-blowing” is vivid but quite informal beside the otherwise polite tone. Aim for more accurate collocations and a consistently suitable register; this would make your vocabulary more flexible and natural while preserving the warm, personal voice.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
The letter includes a useful mix of simple and more complex structures, including “I would appreciate it if you could arrange…” and “although I still struggle…”. Most sentences are easy to understand, and the conditional request is handled effectively. Some grammatical and punctuation slips remain. In “how you perform at the stage,” the preposition and tense pattern need attention; “how you performed on stage” would fit the past concert. The pronoun “i” should be capitalised, and “particularly” should not be capitalised mid-sentence. In “I would be extremely grateful if you offer me,” use “offered” or “could offer” to maintain the conditional structure. More consistent control of these forms would strengthen accuracy.
