Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Atif,
I hope you are doing well. Well, I am writing you to congratulate you for your mind blowing performance that you did last month in California. It was 14 September and you performed at the central town auditorium in the evening. I was there and still recalling your vocals in my mind. The sound tracks that you did, were amazing . I think it's not easy to manage live show where the live audience is there and can give any response at the spot. But ,the way you kept everyone engaged and amused ,inspired me alot.
I want to share about my musical activities with you too, as i believe you can help me with working on my vocals and for effective stage handling. I am a high school student and works for the music society of my school. I am the main lead vocalist for our school music band. We regularly rehears for performing monthly in our school. For the purpose, i was wondering if you can help me with some tips for high note music notes so that i can work on it. It's my weak area where i have to work on. Also , for live performance, i find it difficult to interact with live audiences, Therefore, i need your advice to handle that as well.
I know, you are a busy star and hardly gets time to answer people queries. But I am writing you with high hopes that you will help me out with the aforementioned areas with the tips and tricks. You may reply me within a month.
Thank you for your time.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
You address all three points clearly. Your praise is specific, referring to the concert date, venue, vocals, and your impression that the singer kept the audience engaged. You also explain your role as lead vocalist in your school band and identify two areas where you want help: high notes and interacting with audiences. The request is polite and gives the singer a clear idea of what advice you need. To make the response more fully developed, add a little more detail about your musical activities—for example, what songs or styles your band performs—and specify what kind of guidance you would find most useful, such as a brief lesson or recommended exercises. The letter is relevant and maintains a clear purpose throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter follows a sensible progression: you describe the concert, introduce your own musical activities, make your request, and close politely. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and phrases such as “I want to share” and “Also” guide the reader through your points. This gives the response a coherent overall arrangement. However, some links feel mechanical or are not punctuated smoothly, as in “Also , for live performance,” and the repeated references to “help” and “tips” make the final request slightly repetitive. The transition from concert praise to your own activities could also be more natural. Use a wider range of linking expressions and clearer sentence boundaries to make the progression feel more fluent and less dependent on explicit connectors.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the letter, including relevant expressions such as “lead vocalist,” “stage handling,” “live audiences,” and “high note.” These make your musical interests and needs understandable. You also attempt more expressive language, for example “mind blowing” and “kept everyone engaged and amused,” though some choices are informal or imprecise for a polished letter. There are several word-choice and spelling issues, including “sound tracks” where “songs” or “tracks” would be more natural, “rehears” instead of “rehearse,” and “Regrads” instead of “Regards.” “High note music notes” is also awkward and could be expressed more precisely as “high notes” or “upper-register notes.” Aim for accurate collocations and consistent spelling while retaining your warm tone.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and more complex sentences, including the relative clause in “the way you kept everyone engaged … inspired me” and the conditional request “if you can help me.” Most of your meaning remains clear, but some grammatical errors occur. For example, “I am a high school student and works” has incorrect subject–verb agreement, while “We regularly rehears” uses the wrong verb form. Other examples include “I am writing you” and “reply me,” which need different grammatical patterns, and “you are a busy star and hardly gets time,” where the verb does not agree with “you.” Review agreement, verb forms, and patterns such as “write to someone” and “reply to someone.” More consistently accurate complex sentences would strengthen control.
