Dear Ms Patel,

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Ms Patel,

I am writing this letter for a suggestion to utilise common front area in such a way that parcels deliveries would be secure and smooth.

It would be worth considering to install a secure parcel locker in the entrance. This parcel locker will ensure the safety and security of the parcels and would be easily collectable by the residents of the building anytime.

One of the problems people living in our building facing is that when parcels are delivered, it gets stolen by some outsiders and often get damaged. This is because parcels are in open space and have easy access to everyone, due to which some of the parcels went missing and compromised.

One of the simple solution to these problems would be allocating the designated lockers to each resident in the building which he can use for recieving parcels safe and sound. This way parcels will be secure and collected by the people easily.

I am looking forward to seeing your arrangments on this issue.

Yours sincerely,

Muhammad Atiq Zahir

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three requested points: you ask for a secure locker, explain that parcels are exposed to theft and damage, and propose assigning lockers to residents. The purpose and polite tone are clear. The explanation of the problem is relevant, but the proposed plan is only partly developed: it does not explain how residents would access the lockers, how delivery workers would deposit parcels, or how installation could be arranged. The claim that parcels are stolen by outsiders is also quite general. To make the proposal more complete, add a practical detail such as a unique code for each resident and a request to obtain a quote or consult residents before installation. This would extend the relevant ideas more fully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall arrangement, with separate paragraphs for the request, the current problem, and the proposed solution. This makes the main points easy to locate, and phrases such as “One of the problems” and “One of the simple solution” signal the progression. However, the linking is somewhat mechanical, and the final proposal does not connect its practical steps to the earlier description of delivery difficulties. The reference in “This way” is understandable but broad. Improve the progression by showing how the locker would work from delivery to collection, and use more precise links such as “As a result” or “To address this”. A more specific closing request would also give the letter a stronger conclusion.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “secure parcel locker”, “designated lockers”, “open space” and “easy access”. These choices communicate the central issue, and the tone is appropriately formal. There are, however, several inaccurate or unnatural expressions that limit precision: “a suggestion to utilise” is awkward in this context, “parcels deliveries” is incorrectly formed, and “parcels ... compromised” does not clearly describe what happened. “Collectable” is also less natural than “available for collection”. Check spelling and word forms in “recieving” and “arrangments”. Aim for natural collocations such as “parcel deliveries”, “go missing” and “be damaged”; this will make the proposal sound clearer and more fluent.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including the explanation beginning “This is because” and the proposal beginning “One of the simple solution”. The overall meaning remains understandable, but some errors in agreement, articles and verb forms are noticeable. For example, “One of the problems ... facing” needs a finite verb (“is facing”), while “it gets stolen ... and often get damaged” has inconsistent agreement and reference. “One of the simple solution” should use a plural noun after “one of the”, and “which he can use” does not agree with the plural “each resident” in a natural way. Review subject–verb agreement and sentence construction, then proofread each sentence for a clear subject and consistent reference. More accurate control would strengthen the letter.
